The French Immersion program at École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys has been around for over 25 years in Kenora. Our program also co-exists with St. Thomas Aquinas High School in allowing our students to continue their French Immersion from Grade 7 up to Grade 12 where they will graduate as a French Immersion Graduate and a French Immersion Certificate. At École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys we offer an Early French Immersion program intended, for the most part, for children whose first language is not French. Our students are invited to develop their leadership qualities in many ways as mediators helping to resolve conflicts, answering the telephone during lunchtime, conducting the opening exercises, becoming Inclement Weather Assistant Supervisors, responding to Surveys, and in many other ways. Strong parental support, dedicated School Council, and a very committed staff all contribute to making École Ste-Marguerite Bourgeoys an excellent learning environment.
We also offer the entire range of curriculum mandated by the Ministry of Education and Training. In JK, SK, grades 1 and 2, all instruction, excluding Religion, is given in French. In grade 3, English is introduced and approximately 80 minutes per day are devoted to English Language Arts and Religion. The amount of time for classes in English is gradually increased to approximately 50% by grade 6. During the school day, we have scheduled one Literacy Block dedicated to literacy alone.
