Students Discover Indigenous Traditions at Kenora Chiefs Advisory Fall Harvest
Posted on 10/09/2024
Our Grade 4 & 5 students and staff felt very fortunate to participate in the Kenora Chiefs Advisory’s 4th Annual Fall Harvest at KCA Youth and Family Wellness Camp (Strecker’s Farm). The weather was perfect and made for a great day of learning about local, indigenous traditions.
Students were able to run around, create art using nature, help to skin a moose, learn to pluck a goose, ask questions about traditional medicines that come from the land, and cook bannock over an open fire among other things.
Many thanks to the elders who shared their wisdom, the organizers who kept everyone busy and fed, and Monsieur Demers who made our visit possible. Our Grade 4s and 5s can’t wait for the next Northern Studies event.
