The Arts play a crucial role in fostering a child's imagination and later on exploring their creative side. Research has shown that the arts develop neural systems that produce a broad spectrum of benefits ranging from fine motor skills to creativity and improved emotional balance. From Kindergarten to Grade 12, students at all of our schools under the Kenora Catholic District School Board are encouraged to learn music, drama, dance and the culinary arts through both our curriculum and extra-curricular activities.
Kenora Catholic is proud to offer two arts festivals that are open to all children in the Kenora and surrounding communities.
Early Years Arts Festival
The Hand in Hand Early Years Arts Festival is an experiential, arts-based play day open to all Kenora area families. Parents spend the morning with their children experiencing the joy of play through music, dance, drama, painting and more. The festival is open to families with young children and takes place at St. John Paul II School. Stations explore different arts themes including drama, spray-bottle mural painting, musical instruments, a puppet theatre, cardboard creation station, yoga and Peek-a-Boo photo cutouts. The festival is run as an informal, drop-in, experience and everyone is welcome. The aim is to promote learning through the arts while inspiring imagination and innovation for the whole family.
Family Arts Jamboree
The Family Art Jamboree is one of Kenora Catholic's most popular events. Children in Kindergarten to Grade 6 at Kenora Catholic schools and their families are invited to explore arts workshops together from a host of amazing local artists. Families choose from workshops such as pottery, water-colour painting, fused glass, jigging and square dancing, cheerleading, felt-making, filmmaking and many more. Pre-registration for the event is required. The program is offered during the spring on a Saturday.
